The 2nd Skull Base Surgery Forum was successfully held by Xi’an Tangdu Brain Hospital on April 6-11. Professor Takanori Fukushima, director of the Skull Base Center of Duke University in the United States, who was hailed as the “Hand of God” in Neurosurgery, conducted 1.5 day classic skull base neurosurgical approach demonstration and academic events.
The session of April 10 is classic skull base approach demonstration. Professor Fukushima’s proficient in anatomical skills, superb surgical skills made us a profound impression. During the period, Professor Fukushima constantly stressed: Chinese doctors have many different cases, but what they lack is the equipment of high-class surgical instruments which can help them to complete a perfect operation. By taking this good opportunity, Prof. Fukushima also shared much clinical experience on his use of MIZUHO microsurgery 7201 series of operation table. He strongly recommended this series of table. The benefits are not only the lowest position to 410mm but also the Z-type lift design which can leave a large space under the table to put other surgical equipment for utilization in the same time. And a variety of table position set-up fully met the needs of various position needs for neurosurgery. After one-day approach demonstration, Professor Fukushima’s exact demands in the surgical skills, anatomical knowledge and surgical equipment left a deep impression to everyone in the forum. On the next half day, Professor Fukushima made a detailed explanation by operation video about three parts to all the surgeons: basic skull surgery techniques, complex intracranial aneurysms and meningioma surgery in petroclival region.
At the end of the meeting, Professor Qu Yan, the President of this forum, made a summary. He thanks for all the surgeons who attended this forum from all over the countries and thousands of doctors watched through the network live. Tangdu Hospital also hopes to provide Chinese Neurosurgeons more opportunities for learning and communication, as well as to build a platform to make theoretical knowledge into practical skills which will bring clinical work more effective and practical help.
